KUCHING, 9 Nov — The Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kuching Branch has urged authorities to act immediately following reports of alleged fake Kenyalang Gold Cards discovered in Bintulu, calling for a thorough investigation to prevent the issue from spreading to other areas in Sarawak.
In a statement, the SUPP Kuching Branch Secretariat expressed serious concern over the matter, emphasising that any falsification involving welfare cards meant for senior citizens must be treated with urgency. The branch said that if confirmed, the issue could damage public trust in the Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) system, which was introduced by the Sarawak government to support senior citizens with various benefits and discounts.
According to the branch, complaints about fake Kenyalang Cards were also received in Kuching earlier this year. The branch immediately reported the issue to the Welfare Department and the party’s top leadership for clarification. However, it expressed disappointment that no official response or clarification has been received to date, leaving affected individuals in confusion and distress.
SUPP Kuching also criticised the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Kuching for allegedly taking advantage of the issue for political purposes, claiming that DAP’s actions showed insensitivity to the struggles of senior citizens by using the matter to incite public dissatisfaction.
Due to the delay in official action, SUPP Kuching announced that it will take its own initiative to help affected individuals. The branch invited residents who suspect they hold fake Kenyalang Cards to visit its service centre, where party representatives will assist them in reapplying through the Welfare Department.
Despite criticism from some quarters, SUPP Kuching reaffirmed its commitment to serving the people and resolving community problems transparently. The branch stressed that its focus is not on assigning blame but ensuring that senior citizens receive the rightful benefits promised to them.
The branch concluded by reiterating that the welfare and well-being of the people remain its top priority, and it will continue to oppose any actions or misinformation that harm public trust and unity.
