Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received a courtesy call from the Vice President of Botswana, Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe, during his official engagements in Africa.
The meeting highlighted the enduring diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Botswana, which have spanned more than three decades and are built on mutual trust, respect, and shared aspirations for the progress of both nations.
Anwar reaffirmed Botswana’s importance as a partner for Malaysia in the African region, citing existing investments that reflect the depth of cooperation.
These include the automotive wiring harness manufacturing sector, the Limkokwing University campus in Gaborone, and locomotive and carriage maintenance operations managed by Malaysian companies.
Such ventures have contributed to Botswana’s industrial and educational development while strengthening Malaysia’s economic footprint in Africa.
Vice President Gaolathe expressed appreciation for Malaysia’s role in supporting Botswana’s institutional capacity building.
He acknowledged the contributions of PEMANDU and Malaysian experts, who have assisted in advancing Botswana’s agenda for economic growth and civil service reform. This collaboration has been instrumental in enhancing governance and driving sustainable development.
Both leaders agreed to explore new areas of cooperation that would bring mutual benefits, signalling a commitment to expand the scope of bilateral relations beyond existing sectors.
Anwar conveyed his greetings to President Duma Boko, underscoring Malaysia’s intent to nurture friendship and solidarity with Botswana.
The courtesy call reflects Malaysia’s broader diplomatic outreach in Africa, complementing its engagements with South Africa during the G20 Summit in Johannesburg.
By reinforcing ties with Botswana, Malaysia is positioning itself as a partner in both economic and institutional development across the continent.
