JAKARTA – ASEAN and Brazil reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties and advancing practical cooperation during the 4th ASEAN-Brazil Joint Sectoral Cooperation Committee (AB-JSCC) Meeting, held at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta on 3 December 2025.
The meeting reviewed progress under the ASEAN-Brazil Practical Cooperation Areas (PCA) 2024–2028, which provides a roadmap for collaboration across multiple sectors.
Current initiatives span science, technology and innovation, education, energy, public health, food security, climate change, and people-to-people exchanges.
Officials from both sides also discussed the future direction of the ASEAN-Brazil Sectoral Dialogue Partnership.
Opportunities were identified in combating transnational crime, maritime cooperation, trade and investment, artificial intelligence, creative economy, green transition, digital transformation, supply chain resilience, connectivity, and disaster management.
ASEAN encouraged Brazil to support its long-term vision, ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future, and to engage actively in practical cooperation aligned with the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).
Delegates also called for Brazil’s backing of the newly adopted ASEAN Connectivity Strategic Plan and the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) Work Plan V (2026–2030).
Collaboration with ASEAN’s centres of excellence was welcomed as a means to strengthen institutional capacity and regional resilience.
Brazil reaffirmed its commitment to ASEAN and highlighted its ongoing efforts in sustainable development.
Brazilian officials briefed the meeting on the outcomes of the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30), held in Belém in November 2025.
At COP30, ASEAN hosted a pavilion and Brazil launched the Transitional Fossil Fuel Finance Facility (TFFF), aimed at supporting the global energy transition.
The meeting was co-chaired by San Lwin, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, and Henrique Archanjo Ferraro, Ambassador of Brazil to ASEAN. It was attended by Members of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to ASEAN and their delegations.
The 4th AB-JSCC Meeting underscored the growing importance of ASEAN-Brazil relations, with both sides committed to building a partnership that addresses global challenges while fostering innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth.
