KUCHING – The spirit of cultural unity and musical cooperation took centre stage at the SIFMA 2025 Meet & Greet Session, held on 5 December 2025 at the cosy and vibrant Fifty8 Cafe. The event, co-sponsored by Fifty8 Cafe and Jordan Signature Catering Services, marked an important early gathering ahead of the Sarawak International Festival of Music and Arts (SIFMA) 2025.
The afternoon began with a formal welcome for all participating groups from various countries. Each ensemble was introduced by name, together with their nation of origin, giving guests a clear sense of the diversity represented at this year’s festival. Musicians, directors, and cultural delegates filled the venue with lively conversations, reflecting a genuine excitement to be part of Sarawak’s growing international arts scene.
Dr. Geraldine Law-Lee delivered the official opening remarks, setting a warm and inspiring tone for the programme. In her welcome speech, she highlighted the importance of musical collaboration and cross-cultural exchange, values that form the foundation of SIFMA. She also shared the festival’s vision for 2025, focusing on strengthening global partnerships through the universal language of music.
The session continued with a tourism presentation by Mr. Ozie Tungging from the Sarawak Tourism Board. His presentation featured Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage, its unique natural attractions, and the special experiences awaiting visitors across the state. He encouraged all delegates to take time to explore Sarawak during their stay, noting that the state’s diversity is best appreciated through both its arts and its landscapes.
A symbolic gift exchange ceremony then took place between SIFMA organizers and the participating groups. The presentation of commemorative gifts represented goodwill, friendship, and the strengthening of cultural partnerships among all who will take part in SIFMA 2025.
The event concluded with an informal networking session where musicians, conductors, and organizing committees interacted freely. Photo sessions and media interactions added to the lively atmosphere, paving the way for smoother cooperation and stronger bonds as preparations continue for the upcoming festival.
The Meet & Greet Session marked an encouraging start to SIFMA 2025, reinforcing Sarawak’s commitment to promoting global cultural understanding through music and the arts.
