Sarawak Governor Celebrated Grandchildren’s Aqiqah Ceremony

KUCHING – The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, attended a family gathering in Kuching on 6 December that combined religious observance with birthday celebrations.

The event marked the Aqiqah Ceremony for their granddaughter, Sharifah Hanna binti Syed Hamzah, who turned one, alongside the third birthday of their grandson, Syed Hadid bin Syed Hamzah. The couple were accompanied by their daughter, Sharifah Fariah, underscoring the family-centred nature of the occasion.

Upon arrival, the Governor and his wife were received by Dato’ Sri Haji Syed Hamzah bin Syed Paie, Senior Private Secretary to the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, together with his wife Datin Sri Nur Nadia and other family members. Guests were welcomed in a warm and cordial atmosphere, reflecting the significance of the ceremony for both the hosts and attendees.

The programme included the recitation of prayers honouring the Prophet Muhammad SAW, which added a spiritual dimension to the gathering. The ceremony also provided an opportunity for guests to engage in fellowship, strengthening ties among family members and close associates.

In his remarks, Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi expressed gratitude to the host family for their hospitality and extended prayers for the wellbeing of the children being celebrated. He hoped that both Sharifah Hanna and Syed Hadid would grow up in good health, enjoy prosperity, and embody values of piety and righteousness.

The Governor and his wife also conveyed blessings upon the host family, wishing them continued prosperity and divine favour. Their presence at the event highlighted the importance of family traditions and religious observances within Sarawak’s cultural fabric.

The Aqiqah ceremony, a customary Islamic practice marking the birth of a child, is often accompanied by prayers and gatherings that reinforce community bonds. In Sarawak, such events are not only personal milestones but also reflect broader cultural values of unity, respect, and faith.

This occasion, blending religious observance with family celebration, served as a reminder of the enduring role of tradition in Sarawak society. The Governor’s attendance underscored his commitment to maintaining close ties with the community, while also celebrating the personal joys of family life.
