KUCHING – Gading Volleyball Club A secured victory in the YB Datuk Amar Prof. Dr Sim Kui Hian Volleyball Championship 2025, clinching the title after a commanding performance in the final match at Chung Hua Middle School No. 1 on Sunday.
The closing ceremony was officiated by Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Prof. Dr Sim Kui Hian, who also serves as the Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government.
He praised the Kuching Division Volleyball Association (KDVA) for successfully staging one of the largest volleyball tournaments in the region and later presented prizes to the winners.
In the decisive clash, Gading Volleyball Club A overcame Indonesia’s Tanjung Bugis Valcon in straight sets.
The Sarawak side dominated the opening set with a convincing 25–9 scoreline, before sealing the championship in a closely fought second set at 25–22.
The third-place position was claimed by Magic King from Sabah, who defeated their opponents in two sets, while Urban Volleyball Club finished fourth.
The Most Valuable Player (MVP) award went to Arfandi of Tanjung Bugis Valcon, recognised for his exceptional skill and determination throughout the competition.
The 2025 edition of the championship attracted 16 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams, with participants hailing from Sarawak, Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Brunei, and West Kalimantan, Indonesia.
This diverse line-up reinforced the tournament’s reputation as one of the most prestigious volleyball events in the region.
Beyond the competitive matches, the championship highlighted the unifying power of sport in Sarawak. By bringing together athletes from across Malaysia and neighbouring countries, the event fostered camaraderie and showcased volleyball as a platform for strengthening community ties.
Observers noted that the tournament continues to play a vital role in promoting sports development in Sarawak, offering opportunities for local athletes to compete against international teams while raising the profile of volleyball in the state.
With Gading Volleyball Club A’s triumph, the 2025 championship concluded on a high note, reaffirming Kuching’s position as a hub for regional sporting excellence.
