KUCHING – Her Majesty Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj described Sarawak as her “second home” during the opening of the Borneo International Textile Festival (BiTF) 2025 Seminar on Monday, highlighting the deep cultural ties and mutual respect between Pahang and Sarawak.
In her address, the Queen Consort expressed heartfelt appreciation for the hospitality of Sarawakians, noting that every visit felt like returning home.
“This is not just a relationship of friendship, this is a long and strong relationship of love between Pahang and Sarawak, two states united by heritage, mutual respect and love,” she said.
Her Majesty emphasised that her presence in Sarawak was not merely as a member of the royal family, but as a learner eager to explore the state’s rich heritage. She likened Sarawak to a “library of crafts,” where each tradition and art form offered valuable lessons.
“You respect me and accept my presence in your heritage world but in fact you are my teacher. So, don’t think I’m old but you should think I’m like a child sitting with you,” she remarked.
She also expressed gratitude for Sarawak’s willingness to collaborate with Pahang in promoting handicrafts, arts, and cultural traditions.
The Queen Consort noted that such cooperation strengthens bonds between the two states and serves as a bridge of friendship.
Her Majesty recalled past initiatives, including Sarawak’s support for establishing the Songket Centre at Puncak Borneo Prison, which has become a platform for preserving traditional weaving while empowering inmates with valuable skills.
She praised Sarawak’s commitment to heritage preservation, describing the state as a model for how cultural traditions can be nurtured and sustained.
The BiTF 2025 Seminar brought together artisans, cultural leaders, and government representatives to celebrate textile heritage and innovation.
The event underscored Sarawak’s role as a hub for cultural development and its dedication to promoting inclusivity through heritage-based initiatives.
Also present at the opening were Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Entertainment Arts, representing the Minister, along with other distinguished guests.
Their attendance reflected the state’s strong support for cultural exchange and heritage promotion.
The Queen Consort’s remarks reinforced the enduring relationship between Pahang and Sarawak, built on shared traditions, respect, and a vision of cultural unity.
