KUCHING, 8 January – The N13 Batu Kitang representative, YB Dato’ Ir Lo Khere Chiang, officially handed over the site for a major drainage improvement project at Kampung Haji Baki, covering Blocks B and C. This initiative, funded by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, involves an investment of RM138,500.
The project will see the construction of 1,200 metres of new reinforced concrete drains designed to improve water flow and reduce the risk of flooding in the area. Residents of Blocks B and C can expect a safer and drier environment once the works are completed. The improved drainage system is set to address long-standing water accumulation issues that have affected the community during heavy rains.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, YB Dato’ Ir Lo Khere Chiang expressed his satisfaction at seeing plans come to fruition. “Watching these blueprints transform into real, tangible improvements for our community is the most rewarding part of my work. This project is a vital upgrade for the safety and comfort of our residents, and I look forward to its successful completion,” he said.
Community members welcomed the announcement, highlighting the importance of infrastructure development in enhancing living conditions. Local leaders emphasized that proper drainage not only prevents water stagnation but also supports public health and property protection. The project is expected to be completed within the scheduled timeframe, bringing long-term benefits to the residents of Kampung Haji Baki.
With continued support from the GPS government, such investments underscore the commitment to upgrading essential infrastructure in Sarawak’s urban and semi-urban areas, ensuring communities are better prepared for seasonal challenges.
