KUCHING – The people of Batu Kitang can now enjoy easier access to various government services with the introduction of the Batu Kitang Mobile Service Programme. The programme is a one-stop platform that aims to make official matters simpler by bringing various agencies together in one place.
The programme also involves the participation of a number of important agencies, such as the Padawan Municipal Council, Bank Rakyat, Kuching Division Health Office, Yayasan Sarawak, Sarawak Women and Family Department, Sarawak Pay, Sarawak Pass, and the Sarawak Social Welfare Department. The programme is important as it will reduce the need for residents to visit different offices.
The State Assemblyman for Batu Kitang, Dato’ Lo Khere Chiang, emphasized the significance of the program in addressing the accessibility issues of the community.
He said that many people in the community have difficulties in transportation or scheduling when it comes to dealing with government issues. “This program brings all the services together in one place so that people can get assistance easily and quickly,” he said.
The assemblyman stressed that the mobile service is especially beneficial for senior citizens, low-income families, and working individuals who usually have difficulty juggling multiple appointments.
The assemblyman also stated that the initiative promotes more participation in government programs, ensuring that more people benefit from the available assistance.
Notwithstanding the fact that the programme took place on Sunday, the turnout was quite encouraging, with the people keen to have issues pertaining to welfare, health, banking, and digital services like Sarawak Pay and Sarawak Pass sorted out. “This is people-friendly to approach that we would like to continue,” said Dato’ Lo.
The Batu Kitang Mobile Service Programme is a manifestation of the Sarawak government’s vision of inclusive development, where the assistance of the government will reach all communities, irrespective of their geographical location and background.
Such initiatives have also been implemented in other areas of Sarawak, including Kota Padawan and Bintangor, under the Mobile Service 2U program, which has been well-received for its success in rural areas.
Through the provision of services to the people, the state government shows its commitment to closing the gaps in accessibility and building a stronger relationship between the agencies and the people.
The Batu Kitang initiative is expected to be a model for future outreach programs in Sarawak, reaffirming the state’s commitment to people-oriented governance.
