KUCHING – Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) conducted an emergency response exercise today to test its preparedness for traffic light breakdowns. The drill took place at the Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg intersection, opposite Wisma Seberkas, at around 10.00 am.
The simulation is part of DBKU’s annual programme to strengthen the readiness and efficiency of its Traffic Warden members. It recreated a scenario where traffic lights fail, requiring immediate action to maintain road safety and smooth traffic flow.
At 10.03 am, a mock complaint was received reporting a traffic light failure. Within eight minutes, DBKU traffic personnel arrived on-site, demonstrating rapid response and commitment to public safety.
The operation involved about 10 DBKU Traffic Warden officers, supported by the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Unit. Two members of the Royal Malaysia Police Traffic Division also took part, highlighting the importance of inter-agency collaboration during emergencies.
Officials noted that the exercise tested not only speed but also coordination between different teams. By involving multiple agencies, DBKU aims to adopt an integrated approach to risk management and traffic control during unexpected incidents.
The drill underscored DBKU’s focus on operational readiness and maintaining high service standards. Authorities emphasised that such exercises are crucial for preparing personnel to act swiftly and effectively during real emergencies.
Members of the public were reminded to report any traffic light issues in Kuching North by contacting DBKU at 082-446644. Prompt reporting allows for quick intervention and helps prevent accidents or congestion caused by malfunctioning signals.
DBKU reiterated its commitment to enhancing safety and public well-being. Continuous training and preparedness exercises build confidence among road users and ensure the city’s traffic system remains reliable.
The initiative reflects DBKU’s broader mission to improve urban management and provide a safe environment for all. By combining proactive measures with community cooperation, the council aims to minimise risks and maintain order on the roads.
