KUCHING: The festive spirit of Chinese New Year was strongly felt at the Home of Peace when residents enjoyed a meaningful celebration filled with tradition, care and community support.
The event was attended by YB Dato IR Lo Khere Chiang, who spent time with the elderly residents and expressed his sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the celebration. His presence brought encouragement and reassurance to residents, many of whom rely on the home for daily care and companionship.
During the event, residents were treated to traditional Chinese New Year essentials, including oranges, angpao tokens and a shared festive lunch. These simple but meaningful gestures brought smiles and joy to the seniors, creating a warm atmosphere that reflected the true spirit of the season. Caregivers noted that such moments are important in helping residents feel remembered, respected and included during major festivals.
Lo extended special thanks to Mr Lee, Madam Rose and other generous donors for sponsoring the celebration. Their contributions ensured that the residents could enjoy a proper Chinese New Year experience, complete with festive food and traditional customs. He described their support as a strong example of community responsibility and compassion towards the elderly.
Also present at the event were the Batu 10 Women Chief, Penghulu, Kapitan, councilor and Special Assistant Albert Lee Joo Hee. Their attendance highlighted close cooperation between elected representatives, community leaders and welfare organisations in supporting vulnerable groups.
Home of Peace continues to play an important role in providing shelter, care and dignity to senior citizens in Kuching. The home relies heavily on donations, volunteers and community partnerships to maintain its services and organise special occasions such as festive celebrations.
In his closing remarks, Lo emphasised that caring for the elderly must remain a shared responsibility. He noted that progress and development should always go hand in hand with compassion, especially for those who have contributed to society in their younger years.
The Chinese New Year celebration at Home of Peace ended on a positive note, leaving residents with full hearts and happy memories. It served as a clear reminder that strong leadership, generous hearts and an engaged community can come together to create meaningful and lasting impact.
