MUKAH: Police in Mukah have arrested three local men, including a teenager, following a roadside raid linked to suspected drug abuse activities in Kampung Tellian Tradisi. The operation was carried out on Wednesday afternoon after police received public information about suspicious movements in the area.
According to DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias, the Mukah District Police Chief, the arrests were made at around 1.15 pm by a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division. The team conducted a raid near a rented house along a roadside in the village, acting on intelligence gathered earlier.
During the operation, police detained three men aged between 16 and 24 years old. All three are locals and were not employed at the time of their arrest. Initial inspections led officers to discover a transparent straw tube containing crystal-like substances believed to be methamphetamine. The item was found in the possession of the 24-year-old suspect.
DSP Muhamad Rizal said the estimated gross weight of the seized drugs was 0.46 grams. Following the discovery, the suspects were immediately taken to the Mukah District Police Headquarters for further investigation and documentation.
Urine screening tests were later conducted on all three individuals. Results confirmed that all of them tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. Police believe the findings support initial suspicions that the group was involved in drug abuse activities within the area.
Further investigations revealed that the suspect found in possession of the drugs will be investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession, as well as Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for drug consumption. The remaining two suspects are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) for drug use.
The case has raised concern among local residents, especially as one of the suspects is still under 18 years old. Police have reiterated their commitment to tackling drug-related activities in Mukah and surrounding areas, stressing that enforcement efforts will continue, particularly in residential villages.
The district police chief also reminded the public to cooperate with authorities by sharing information related to drug activities. He said community support plays a key role in maintaining public safety and protecting young people from the dangers of drug abuse.
Mukah police will continue monitoring the situation as investigations proceed, with the aim of preventing further drug-related offences in the district and ensuring the well-being of the local community.
