ASAJAYA – A search and rescue operation launched by the Asajaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Asajaya) concluded with a positive outcome after an elderly man, reported missing in a forested area, was found safe at his residence.
The incident, which began with urgent concerns from family members, highlighted the rapid response capabilities of local emergency services and the importance of community vigilance.
The alarm was raised on Friday, 31 July 2026, when a concerned relative, identified as Mr Chin, contacted the fire station directly.
He reported that an elderly male family member had entered the forest earlier that morning and had failed to return home by the evening.
The missing person was described as wearing a maroon shirt and black outerwear and was carrying a basket of rice along with a machete, suggesting he may have been engaged in agricultural or foraging activities.
Given the potential dangers associated with venturing into dense vegetation, particularly for an older individual, the caller expressed significant anxiety regarding the victim’s safety. In response, BBP Asajaya immediately mobilised a search team.
The unit deployed a utility Nissan Navara (registration WWD 8905) and three personnel: PBK I 12501 Andrew Anak Mangga, who served as the team leader, alongside PBB 3478 Ahmad Tarmizi bin Nua and PBB 3486 Mohd Zaihan bin Kepli.
Upon arriving at the location near Kampung Ketup Subi in Sambir, the team leader conducted an initial assessment to gather more specific details about the last known whereabouts of the missing man.
The terrain in this part of Asajaya can be challenging, with thick undergrowth and uneven ground posing risks to those unfamiliar with the area. However, before the search party could venture deep into the forest, a crucial development occurred.
During the preliminary information gathering phase, the operations commander received news that the missing elderly man had already returned to his home at No. 31, Subi Village, Sambir.
It appeared that the individual had completed his tasks in the forest and made his way back independently, possibly using a different route or returning later than expected by his family.
Firefighters promptly proceeded to the residence to verify the report. Upon inspection, they confirmed that the elderly man was present, safe, and had not sustained any injuries during his time in the forest. His physical condition was stable, and he was able to communicate clearly with the rescue team.
With the primary objective of locating the missing person achieved and no further medical or logistical assistance required, the operation was officially terminated.
