RM6.5 Million Land Compensation Distributed for Highway Project in Serian

SERIAN – The second phase of the Land Compensation Cheque Handing Over Ceremony for the Serian–Gedong–Samarahan Dual Carriageway Highway Project was held on 24 February 2026 at the Kampung Munggu Kupi Community Hall.

The event was officiated by Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development and Assemblyman for N.20 Tarat. The ceremony marked another milestone in the state’s infrastructure development agenda, ensuring that affected landowners are fairly compensated.

Recipients included residents from Kampung Munggu Kupi, Kampung Rayang, Kampung Tanah Puteh, and Kampung Sebemban, all of which fall within the alignment of the project. A total of 73 individuals received compensation cheques amounting to RM6.5 million.

The Serian–Gedong–Samarahan Dual Carriageway Highway Project spans 45.65 kilometres, with Section 1A covering 9.79 kilometres and Section 1B extending 8.54 kilometres.

Once completed, the highway is expected to deliver significant benefits to local communities, including safer and more comfortable travel, reduced journey times to nearby towns and cities, and improved access to essential facilities such as schools, clinics, and markets.

Officials emphasised that the project is not only about infrastructure but also about enhancing the quality of life for residents. By providing better connectivity, the highway is anticipated to stimulate economic growth, encourage investment, and strengthen social integration across the region.

The ceremony was jointly organised by the Resident and District Offices, the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), and the Serian Division Land and Survey Department. Their collaboration ensured that the compensation process was carried out transparently and efficiently.

Dato Sri Roland Sagah highlighted the government’s commitment to balancing development with fairness to affected communities. He noted that compensation is a crucial step in maintaining trust and ensuring that progress benefits all stakeholders.

The project forms part of Sarawak’s broader infrastructure development strategy, aimed at modernising transport networks and supporting regional growth. With the completion of this dual carriageway, residents in Serian, Gedong, and Samarahan will enjoy improved connectivity, contributing to long-term socio-economic advancement.
