Sri Aman Ramadan Bazaar Hawkers Receive RM42,500 Subsidy Support

SRI AMAN – Hawkers at the Ramadan Bazaar in Sri Aman have received a subsidy injection totalling RM42,500, aimed at easing their financial burden during the festive trading season.

The assistance was distributed through the 2026 Ramadan Bazaar Hawker Subsidy Handover Ceremony, with Lingga State Assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor highlighting the government’s concern for small traders who rely on Ramadan as an important source of income.

Of the total allocation, RM20,000 was channelled specifically to hawkers at the PBB Lingga Bazaar, while the remainder was distributed among other traders participating in this year’s Ramadan bazaars. Each eligible hawker received an incentive of RM250.

Dayang Noorazah explained that the subsidy would help traders cover operating costs such as raw materials, site rental and equipment purchases. She noted that many hawkers depend on Ramadan as their main opportunity to boost earnings and prepare for Syawal celebrations.

“The Ramadan Bazaar is not just a place to buy and sell food to break the fast, but an important platform to boost the local economy. Many hawkers make Ramadan their main opportunity to increase their income,” she said in a speech delivered by her representative.

Hawkers were also reminded to prioritise cleanliness, food safety and customer service to ensure the bazaars are conducted in an organised and safe manner. The emphasis on hygiene and quality service is seen as vital to maintaining public confidence and sustaining the popularity of Ramadan bazaars.

The subsidy scheme reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the micro-economy and supporting grassroots traders. It also embodies the spirit of togetherness and mutual assistance that is central to Ramadan, encouraging community resilience and cooperation.

Local traders welcomed the initiative, noting that the financial support would help them manage rising costs while continuing to provide affordable food options for residents. The subsidy is expected to encourage more participation in Ramadan bazaars, further stimulating the local economy in Sri Aman.
