Bailey Bridge in Baram Completed Five Months Ahead of Schedule

BARAM: A new Bailey bridge built over the Baleh River in Baram has been completed five months ahead of schedule, returning much-needed communication facilities for local residents.

As part of the ongoing Project Empowerment Visit series, the project was further inspected by YBhg Datu Adj Prof Ir Ts Dr Cassidy Morris, Director of Public Works Sarawak (JKR Sarawak), on 4 March. Early completion is considered a milestone in providing speedy infrastructure solutions for the rural areas.

NADMA would like to highlight that the Bailey bridge was provided under its logistics support initiative, which intends to provide alternate routes in areas requiring safe solutions on an urgent basis.

The collaboration between NADMA and JKR Sarawak shows a collective statement towards expediting the infrastructure delivery in Sarawak Interior.

The bridge in question is a Triple Double Reinforced Bailey bridge that was built from 17 panels, which allows the structure to withstand the appropriate traffic loads safely.

Officials said that they chose this design to ensure resilience and reliability, especially in rural areas where access routes are vital to maintaining daily life.

Dr Cassidy said that the early completion of the project is a testament to effective coordination between agencies and contractors.

He said that as part of the government’s commitment to rural development, the empowerment visits are meant for ensuring that projects meet specifications, timelines and the needs of the community.

Baram residents received the welcome news of a new bridge that restores connectivity and supports mobility for communities heavily dependent on access to road networks for trade, education, and healthcare.

The new water road is predicted to make travel easier and bolster economic activities in the area thanks to improved infrastructure.

This Bailey bridge project was the rolling out of a temporary but solid infrastructure solution in rural Sarawak.

This enables authorities to provide immediate relief to communities while longer-term infrastructure planning is underway by bringing projects forward and delivering them ahead of schedule.

This partnership between NADMA and JKR Sarawak has wide-ranging significance, as it can serve as a model for future collaborative projects to ensure the effective implementation of infrastructure development in rural areas.

We will continue to monitor progress across similar initiatives during the empowerment visit series, reinforcing accountability and community-focused outcomes.
