Sarawak Federal Secretary Meets Chief Ombudsman to Strengthen Governance

KUCHING – On 11 March 2026, YBhg. Dato Ahmad Nadzri bin Mohd Hassan, Secretary of the Federation of Sarawak (SUPS), welcomed YBhg. Dato Sri Abdul Ghafur Shariff, Chief Ombudsman of Sarawak, during a courtesy call aimed at enhancing cooperation between their respective offices.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the SUPS Secretary to be briefed on the functions and responsibilities of the Integrity and Ombudsman Unit of Sarawak.

The unit plays a critical role in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance across the public sector, ensuring that service delivery meets the highest standards.

Both parties emphasised the importance of strategic collaboration in strengthening institutional frameworks.

Also present at the session were senior officials from the Ombudsman’s office, including Mr. Alexander Unya anak Ambon, Deputy Chief Ombudsman; Mr. Albert Tang Yew Liong, Ombudsman; Mrs. Hajah Toieyah binti Haji Tioh, Ombudsman; Datu Buckland anak Bangik, Ombudsman of Sarawak; Mrs. Nurul Natasha binti Nasaruddin, Administrative Officer, Ombudsman Management Division; Ms. Siti Zurainy binti Zulkipli, Administrative Officer, Ombudsman Management Division; and Ms. Khadijah binti Kapali, Assistant Administrative Officer, Ombudsman Management Division.

The Integrity and Ombudsman Unit has been tasked with addressing complaints, monitoring compliance, and advising on best practices in governance.

Its collaboration with SUPS is expected to streamline communication channels and provide stronger oversight in public administration.

The courtesy call reflects Sarawak’s ongoing efforts to align state-level governance with national priorities, ensuring that public institutions remain responsive and accountable.

By fostering closer ties between SUPS and the Ombudsman Unit, the initiative aims to build confidence among citizens in the delivery of government services.
