JULAU – A fisherman who was reported missing after going out to fish in Sebuloh, Sungai Kanowit, Julau has been found drowned.
The victim, identified as Geofferey anak Senah, aged 39, was discovered floating approximately 100 metres from the location where he was last seen fishing. Members of the public spotted the body at around 7.30 am on Friday.
Following the discovery, the search and rescue operation (OP SAR) was officially concluded at 9.20 am by the operation commander. The victim’s remains were subsequently handed over to Julau District Police Headquarters (IPD Julau) for further action.
Geofferey was reported missing by his sister-in-law after he failed to return home overnight from his fishing trip. Concerned family members alerted authorities, prompting a coordinated search effort.
The operation involved personnel from IPD Julau, the Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA), Penyelamat Bintangor, and members of the public who assisted in the search. Their cooperation was acknowledged by the Civil Defence Force, which expressed gratitude for the collective effort.
Local residents have voiced sadness over the incident, noting that fishing activities along Sungai Kanowit can sometimes pose risks due to unpredictable water conditions. Authorities continue to remind the public to exercise caution when engaging in river-based activities, particularly during periods of strong currents or adverse weather.
The tragedy has brought attention to the importance of community vigilance and swift reporting in missing person cases. Officials emphasised that early alerts are crucial in enabling search teams to respond quickly and effectively.
The discovery of Geofferey’s body marks the end of a two-day search operation, leaving family members and the Julau community mourning his loss.
