BAU — The Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of IPD Bau has taken firm action following a viral video showing a dangerous driving incident along Jalan Bau/Kuching near Kampung Keranji.
The video, which was widely shared on the Facebook page Sarawak Roads Update, captured a Perodua Kancil being driven in a reckless manner. The dashcam footage showed the vehicle entering the opposite lane, creating a serious risk to other road users. The incident reportedly occurred on 22 March 2026 at approximately 5.34 pm.
According to a statement released by the authorities, the case was investigated by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division under IPD Bau shortly after the video gained public attention. Acting on the information received, enforcement officers successfully traced the driver involved.
The driver presented himself at the BSPT IPD Bau office on 24 March 2026 to assist in the investigation. During questioning, the driver admitted to operating the vehicle while in a drowsy condition. Investigations concluded that the driver had failed to comply with double line road markings and did not keep to the correct lane.
As a result, two summonses were issued under existing traffic laws. The offences include failing to obey double lines and failing to adhere to the proper lane. Authorities stressed that action was taken in accordance with the current provisions under Malaysian traffic regulations.
Police reminded the public that driving while fatigued poses a serious threat, not only to the driver but also to innocent road users. A moment of lost concentration can lead to tragic consequences. Road users are advised to rest adequately before starting their journey and to stop immediately if they feel tired.
The swift action taken by BSPT IPD Bau reflects the continued commitment of the Royal Malaysia Police in ensuring road safety and maintaining order on public roads. Members of the public are also encouraged to report traffic offences responsibly, as community cooperation remains vital in preventing accidents.
Road safety is a shared responsibility. The road is not a place to take risks but a trust that must be upheld by every driver. Strict enforcement, combined with public awareness, remains the foundation of safer roads in Sarawak.
