BINTULU – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Sarawak, through its Bintulu Branch, has intensified enforcement under Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri (HRA) 2026, conducting patrols and monitoring activities across Bintulu town to ensure compliance with road laws during the festive season.
The operation, held on Friday, 27 March 2026, involved inspections of 82 vehicles of different types. JPJ officers detected several violations, including motorists driving without valid licences, expired driving licences, and vehicles operating with expired Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM). Other offences included lack of insurance coverage and technical issues affecting vehicle safety.
Legal action was taken against all offenders in accordance with current legislation. JPJ emphasised that these measures are necessary to protect road users and reduce risks during periods of heavy travel.
Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a nationwide initiative aimed at improving road safety and minimising accidents during festive seasons.
Similar enforcement activities have been reported across Sarawak, reflecting JPJ’s commitment to consistent monitoring and advocacy throughout the state.
Officials explained that the campaign is not only focused on enforcement but also on educating motorists.
JPJ officers have been engaging with drivers to highlight the importance of valid documentation, insurance coverage, and proper vehicle maintenance.
The department stressed that compliance with these requirements is essential to safeguard lives and ensure smoother traffic flow.
JPJ Sarawak reiterated its pledge to continue strengthening enforcement during the festive period. “JPJ Sarawak will continue to be committed to intensifying enforcement to ensure that the safety of road users is always guaranteed,” the department stated.
Road safety remains a pressing issue in Malaysia, with festive seasons often linked to higher accident rates.
National statistics have shown that enforcement campaigns, combined with awareness programmes, play a crucial role in reducing fatalities and improving compliance.
JPJ’s proactive measures in Bintulu are therefore aligned with broader national strategies to promote a culture of safe driving.
As Hari Raya Aidilfitri approaches, JPJ has urged all motorists to check their licences, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and maintain valid insurance coverage. The department emphasised that collective responsibility is key to achieving safer roads for all.
