TATAU – Residents of Kampung Dagang was alerted to a potential wildlife hazard in the early hours of Monday morning when a venomous snake was discovered inside a local home.
The Tatau District Civil Defence Force (APM) successfully neutralised the threat on 30 March 2026, after receiving an emergency call from a concerned member of the public regarding a snake sighting within a private residence.
The distress call reached the Tatau Unit Operations Control Centre at approximately 02:26 hrs, prompting an immediate response. The Myaspa-O Bravo Squad, consisting of three trained personnel, was dispatched to house number 48 in Kampung Dagang to manage the situation.
Upon their arrival, the homeowner reported that the reptile had positioned itself on a bedroom window, posing a direct risk to the occupants.
Prior to engaging with the animal, the Bravo Squad members donned full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure their safety. The intruder was identified as a Banded Krait (locally known as Ular Katam Tebu), measuring roughly one metre in length.
The Banded Krait is a highly venomous species native to Southeast Asia, known for its distinctive yellow and black alternating bands and its potentially lethal neurotoxic venom.
Using a professional pinning technique, the APM experts managed to secure the snake within a few minutes. This method allows rescuers to safely restrain the head of the reptile before placing it into a secure container for transport.
The precision of the operation ensured that neither the residents nor the responders sustained any injuries during the extraction.
Following the successful capture, the squad conducted a final sweep of the area to ensure no other reptiles were present. The team officially concluded the operation and returned to the Tatau District Emergency Operations Centre (PKOU).
Such wildlife interventions are a core part of the APM’s role in Sarawak, where the proximity of jungle habitats often leads to encounters between humans and dangerous wildlife.
The public is reminded to remain vigilant and avoid attempting to handle or provoke snakes found within their homes. For any emergencies, the Tatau Civil Defence Force can be reached via the national emergency line 999 or their dedicated 24-hour hotline at 019-2178758.
