MIRI – Police in Miri have confiscated ten motorcycles and issued thirty summonses during a late-night enforcement operation targeting illegal street activities.
The operation, known as Op Samseng Jalanan, was conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Miri District Police Headquarters between 11.00 pm on 4 April and 3.30 am on 5 April 2026.
Officers focused on several key roads, including Jalan Piasau, Jalan Miri Bypass, Jalan Marina, Jalan Tanjung Lobang and Jalan Bekenu, following complaints from residents about disruptive motorcycle gatherings.
Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee bin Abdullah confirmed that thirty men and five women were stopped during the operation, along with thirty motorcycles. Inspections revealed a range of offences, from riding without a valid licence to structural modifications that breached safety standards.
Among the violations were motorcycles fitted with noisy exhaust systems, missing side mirrors, unregistered vehicles, and the use of non-standard or ‘fancy’ registration plates. These modifications, police noted, not only contravene road regulations but also pose risks to other road users.
Ten motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987, which allows authorities to take action against vehicles involved in illegal modifications or unsafe practices.
ACP Mohd Farhan stressed that police will continue to act firmly against individuals engaging in street gang activities. “We will not compromise with anyone whose actions endanger themselves or others on the road,” he said.
The crackdown reflects wider efforts across Malaysia to address the growing problem of illegal street racing and gang-related motorcycle activities. These gatherings often disrupt traffic flow, create noise pollution, and raise safety concerns for communities.
Police have urged the public to comply with road laws, avoid unauthorised modifications, and refrain from activities that threaten public order. Authorities also encouraged residents to report information about street gang activities directly to the Miri District Police Headquarters for immediate action.
The operation highlights the ongoing commitment of law enforcement to safeguard road safety and maintain public peace in Miri. With continued enforcement and community cooperation, authorities hope to reduce the prevalence of dangerous motorcycle activities in the district.
