BINTULU – Firefighters in Bintulu responded to a fire involving five units of rubber pier barriers at the Shin Yang Sdn Bhd industrial area on Monday night.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) confirmed receiving an emergency call at 8.09pm, prompting immediate deployment of personnel from the Bintulu Fire and Rescue Station.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the fire was confined to the rubber jetty barriers located within the workshop compound. Importantly, the flames did not spread to the building structures, preventing further damage.
The team carried out the extinguishing operation using two 200-foot water streams, supported by two nozzles and two foam barrels. The coordinated effort ensured the fire was fully brought under control.
The operation concluded at 9.13 pm, with no injuries or fatalities reported. Authorities have stated that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Industrial fires in Bintulu have been a recurring challenge, given the district’s role as a hub for heavy industries and manufacturing.
Fire and Rescue teams are often required to act swiftly to prevent damage from spreading to critical infrastructure.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department continues to remind businesses and industrial operators to maintain strict safety protocols, particularly in areas where flammable materials are stored. Preventive measures, including regular inspections and fire drills, are considered vital in reducing risks.
This latest incident highlights the readiness of Bintulu’s emergency services and their ability to contain hazards before they escalate.
The department’s rapid response has once again ensured public safety and minimised potential losses in the industrial zone.
