KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a phone discussion today with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, focusing on the latest developments in the Middle East and their implications for regional stability and energy security.
The leaders welcomed the temporary ceasefire involving the United States, Iran, Israel and Lebanon, describing it as a positive step towards easing tensions.
Both sides emphasised the urgent need for a more comprehensive and lasting resolution to the conflict, noting the strain it has placed on global energy supplies and trade routes.
Prime Minister Anwar reiterated Malaysia’s support for ongoing diplomatic initiatives, including Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue among the parties.
He stressed that freedom of navigation and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz must be safeguarded in line with international law, given its critical importance to global energy flows.
The conversation also addressed energy challenges within the region. Both leaders agreed on the importance of strengthening grid resilience and managing supply-demand pressures.
They highlighted the ASEAN Energy Grid as a strategic measure to enhance regional cooperation, accelerate integration, and ensure long-term energy stability.
