KUCHING – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, welcomed a delegation from the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDNM) at Astana Sarawak this morning.
The courtesy visit, held at 11.00 am, was led by LHDNM Chief Executive Officer Dato Dr Abu Tariq bin Jamaluddin.
He was accompanied by senior officers including Sarawak Director Abang Ehsan bin Abang Abu Bakar, State Operations Director (Audit) Paul anak Sarip, State Operations Director (Strategic Compliance) Zaimah binti Tayon, State Operations Director (Legal) Norazira binti Abdul Wahab, Special Duties Secretary Farouk Nazli Khan bin Kumar, and Research Officer Shahminan bin Ahmad.
The meeting served as an introduction of the Sarawak leadership team of LHDNM to the Governor and his wife, while also reinforcing cooperation between the federal agency and the Sarawak State Government.
Strengthening ties between both sides is seen as crucial in ensuring effective revenue administration and coordination across jurisdictions.
Discussions during the session touched on several key areas, including enhancing collaboration in tax administration and improving communication between federal and state authorities.
The delegation highlighted recent achievements in revenue collection and outlined new initiatives aimed at raising taxation awareness among the public.
These efforts particularly target small and medium enterprises as well as local companies in Sarawak, with the goal of fostering greater compliance and understanding of tax responsibilities.
Tun Pehin Sri emphasised the importance of inclusive taxation education, noting that all segments of society should be aware of the role of taxation in supporting infrastructure development and welfare programmes.
He stressed that taxation is not merely a financial obligation but a vital mechanism for sustaining growth and improving the quality of life for the people.
The Governor and Toh Puan expressed appreciation for the Inland Revenue Board’s commitment to integrity, transparency and efficiency in managing national revenue.
They acknowledged the agency’s role in ensuring that taxation contributes meaningfully to the prosperity of Sarawak and the well-being of its citizens.
The visit underscored the shared commitment of both federal and state institutions to work together in strengthening fiscal management.
It also highlighted the importance of building public trust in taxation systems, ensuring that revenue collection is seen as a collective responsibility for the advancement of the state.
