KUCHING – The Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) underwent the Sarawak Civil Service Environmental Standard (SACSES) Certification Audit at its headquarters on 24 April 2026.
SACSES was introduced through the Sarawak Public Service Transformation and Innovation Circular Number 3 of 2025, dated 14 July 2025.
It replaces the Public Sector Conducive Ecosystem (EKSA) initiative, placing stronger emphasis on sustainable, systematic and safe workplace management.
The framework aligns with Sarawak’s broader aspirations for efficiency and environmental responsibility within the civil service.
The audit was led by Chief Auditor Puan Nor Rafidah binti Rasli, supported by Encik Abang Abdul Rahman bin Salihin and Encik Mohamad Yussof bin Bujang from the Sarawak Transformation and Innovation Unit (STIU).
Their role was to ensure that NREB’s operations and office environment meet the standards required under SACSES.
Staff at NREB headquarters were commended for their cooperation throughout the audit process. Offices and workspaces were maintained in a neat, clean and safe condition, reflecting the department’s commitment to high standards of workplace management.
SACSES certification represents more than compliance; it is part of Sarawak’s ongoing transformation agenda to modernise public service delivery.
By embedding sustainability and safety into daily operations, the initiative aims to create a conducive environment that supports productivity while safeguarding employee wellbeing.
Officials highlighted that SACSES builds upon the foundation of EKSA but introduces more rigorous requirements, particularly in environmental management and systematic workplace organisation.
The certification process is designed to encourage continuous improvement, ensuring that government agencies remain aligned with best practices.
The successful audit at NREB headquarters demonstrates the department’s readiness to adopt new standards and its dedication to supporting Sarawak’s vision of a progressive, sustainable civil service.
It also sets an example for other agencies to follow, reinforcing the importance of collective responsibility in achieving transformation goals.
