BINTULU – The Bintulu Division Veterinary Services Department (DVS), working with the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) and supported by the Tatau District Agriculture Office, has successfully extended its House-to-House (H2H) rabies control programme to the Sangan area of Tatau.
The initiative, carried out on 24 and 25 April 2026, focused on vaccination, licensing, and microchipping of dogs.
The campaign covered 15 longhouses, reflecting the authorities’ ongoing commitment to reach rural communities where rabies remains a concern.
By bringing services directly to households, the programme ensures that residents and their pets are protected while raising awareness about responsible ownership.
Over the two-day effort, veterinary officers administered 44 doses of anti-rabies vaccine, including 43 first-time injections and one booster dose. In addition, 32 electronic licences were issued to dog owners, and 44 dogs were successfully microchipped, involving 29 households.
These measures strengthen traceability and accountability, helping to reduce risks associated with rabies transmission.
The presence of Mr John from the Tatau District Agriculture Office highlighted the collaborative nature of the initiative, which integrates multiple agencies to deliver comprehensive public health services. Officials stressed that such cooperation is vital for sustaining rabies control across Sarawak.
Local residents played a crucial role in the success of the programme, welcoming officers into their homes and supporting the vaccination and licensing process.
Authorities expressed appreciation for this cooperation, noting that community involvement is essential to achieving long-term rabies prevention.
The H2H programme is part of Sarawak’s wider strategy to combat rabies, which has been a persistent public health challenge in several divisions.
By combining medical intervention with education and outreach, the initiative aims to safeguard communities while promoting responsible pet care.
Residents are encouraged to follow updates on the official Facebook pages of the Bintulu Development Authority and the Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak.

The campaign in Sangan underscores Sarawak’s determination to strengthen rabies control through integrated efforts, community engagement, and sustained vigilance.
