BINTULU – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Bintulu successfully destroyed a large ground wasp nest following an emergency call on Thursday, 7 May 2026.
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received the alert from another agency, which reported the presence of the nest attached to the frame of an old forklift.
The nest, described as being the size of a football, posed a potential danger to nearby individuals. APM members arrived at the site equipped with specialised tools and safety gear.
The team carried out the operation using a combination of insecticide spray and controlled burning techniques. The procedure was completed safely, and the area was declared secure after the nest was removed.
Ground wasps are known for their aggressive behaviour when disturbed, and their stings can cause severe reactions, particularly among children, the elderly, and those with allergies.
Authorities have reminded residents not to attempt handling nests themselves, as improper methods can lead to serious injuries.
Community leaders in Bintulu have praised the swift and professional response of APM, noting that their readiness reassures residents of their safety.
The incident highlights the importance of cooperation between the public and emergency services, as timely reporting allows trained personnel to intervene before risks escalate.
APM Bintulu continues to encourage vigilance among residents, advising them to maintain clean surroundings and to report any sightings of dangerous wildlife or insect nests near residential areas.
Emergency assistance is available through the national hotline 999 or via their dedicated 24-hour line at 086-318233.
The organisation’s slogans, “Nang Steady”, “There is a Disaster, Call APM”, and “Ready Fast with Integrity”, reflect its commitment to reliable service and community protection.
This latest case in Bintulu demonstrates the crucial role of APM in safeguarding communities and ensuring public safety.
