KAPIT – A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison and 10 strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to two charges involving the rape and sodomy of a minor. The ruling was delivered by the Sessions Court in Kapit on 12 May 2026.
Judge YA Tuan Musyiri Peet imposed separate sentences for each offence, with the punishment to run consecutively from the date of arrest.
The severity of the sentence reflects the gravity of the crimes committed against the young victim. Court documents revealed that both incidents took place in April 2026 at a rented house in Kapit Town.
In the first case, the accused raped the victim while she was putting her younger sibling to sleep. The second offence occurred in the same room, where the accused sodomised the victim while her mother was in the kitchen.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Puan Cynthia Emelda Jerry, while the investigation was conducted by Insp Mohammad Syafriedhan bin Yusof.
The case highlights the importance of swift and firm legal action in protecting vulnerable individuals from sexual crimes.
Authorities have stressed that offences of this nature not only break the law but also cause lasting harm to victims and their families.
The court’s decision serves as a reminder of the serious consequences faced by perpetrators of sexual violence.
Community leaders and law enforcement agencies continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour immediately.
Protecting children from abuse requires collective responsibility, with families, neighbours, and institutions playing a role in safeguarding their wellbeing.
The ruling in Kapit underscores Malaysia’s commitment to upholding justice and protecting minors from exploitation. It also serves as a warning to offenders that such crimes will be met with uncompromising punishment.
Police and prosecutors have reiterated that awareness and early reporting are crucial in preventing further harm.
The case stands as a call for society to strengthen its resolve in defending dignity, respecting rights, and ensuring a safer environment for all.
