KUCHING – The Sarawak Day 2026 celebration will be held in Sibu from 20 to 22 July, with organisers expecting more than 5,000 participants to attend the three-day event.
Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said this year’s programme will highlight Sarawak’s identity as a multi-racial and multi-religious state.
He emphasised the importance of involving community leaders, tribal representatives and local communities from the central zone to ensure the success of the celebration.
The announcement was made during the first Sarawak-level Sarawak Day Celebration Main Committee Meeting for 2026, held in Kuching on Thursday.
Among the key events planned is a Sales Carnival coordinated by Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee. The programme aims to showcase local products and encourage community participation.
An Other Religions Thanksgiving Ceremony will take place at Kingwood Hotel, organised by Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil.
Meanwhile, Zumba and Unity activities will be held at Dataran Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang under the coordination of Deputy Minister Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee.
Religious and community-focused programmes will also feature prominently. A Thanksgiving Ceremony is scheduled at Masjid An-Nur, while a Townhall session will be held at the Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud Chancellor’s Hall.
These events will be coordinated by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, and Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol.
The highlight of the celebration will be the Sarawak Day Assembly and People’s Concert, coordinated by Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datuk Len Talif Salleh. These events are expected to draw large crowds and serve as the focal point of the festivities.
Organisers have stressed that the celebration is designed to be inclusive, reflecting Sarawak’s diverse cultural and religious heritage.
By incorporating a wide range of activities, the event aims to strengthen unity and foster pride among Sarawakians.
The Sarawak Day celebration commemorates the state’s historical journey and achievements, while also promoting community spirit and cultural harmony.
With Sibu hosting this year’s event, the town is set to become a hub of activity, welcoming thousands of visitors and participants from across the state.
