KUCHING – Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg has emphasised that political stability and a spirit of togetherness remain vital elements in ensuring the state’s continued progress, prosperity, and competitiveness.
Speaking at the Backbenchers’ Night event held at the Pullman Hotel, the premier noted that Sarawak is fortunate to enjoy a strong and cohesive leadership team.
“Alhamdulillah, we have such good stability and a close-knit team in helping to administer and develop Sarawak,” the premier said.
He explained that stability at the national level is equally important, as political uncertainty can disrupt development and economic growth.
“We want the country to remain stable because if the situation becomes chaotic, it will definitely bring problems to all parties. However, what is important is that we must continue to maintain the stability of Sarawak,” he added.
The Premier also underlined the need for Sarawak to preserve a harmonious and mature political culture. He cautioned against negative political elements that could undermine the state’s stability, stressing that unity and cooperation must remain central to governance.
He attributed Sarawak’s steady progress to the political approach practised by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), which he said has been instrumental in maintaining stability and respect for the state.
“The GPS government is important for us to maintain stability, harmony and the future of Sarawak,” he remarked.
Observers note that Sarawak’s political stability has been a key factor in enabling long-term planning and development initiatives.
The state’s ability to maintain unity among its leaders has allowed for consistent policy implementation, which in turn supports economic growth and social development.
The Premier’s comments reflect a broader recognition that political stability is not only about governance but also about fostering confidence among investors, communities, and institutions.
By maintaining a culture of maturity and togetherness, Sarawak aims to safeguard its progress and ensure that future generations benefit from a stable and prosperous environment.
As Sarawak continues to pursue its development agenda, the emphasis on political stability and unity is expected to remain a cornerstone of its strategy.
The Premier’s remarks reinforce the message that strong leadership and collective responsibility are essential in securing the state’s long-term success.
