KUCHING, May 24 — The spirit of community cooperation and compassion was clearly seen during the “Kempen Sedekah Makanan” programme held at the 7th Mile Area Penrissen Road Community Association in Kuching on Sunday afternoon.
The charity event, brought together community leaders, association members, local residents, and volunteers with one common goal — to provide food assistance and support to 300 underprivileged families and individuals facing financial hardship.
Held at the association premises along Jalan Penrissen, the programme served as an important community initiative aimed at helping vulnerable groups while encouraging stronger unity among residents in the area.
Several local leaders and representatives attended the event, including Kapitan Voon Boon Min, Association president David Ng, Padawan Chairman Mr Tan Kai, and association advisor Tiong Chiong Teck. Chairman Tan Kai also represented the charity programme in support of the organisers’ efforts to help those in need.
In his remarks during the event, Association president David Ng said community support plays an important role in ensuring welfare programmes such as this can continue to benefit struggling families. He noted that many households are still dealing with economic challenges, making community-driven assistance increasingly important.
He also expressed appreciation to all volunteers, donors, and supporters who contributed to the success of the programme. According to him, charity activities not only provide immediate help but also help strengthen social ties and encourage more people to care for one another.
The organisers hoped the campaign would inspire more members of the public to take part in future welfare and charity activities organised within the community. They also encouraged the public to help spread awareness about the importance of helping vulnerable groups through social media and community networks.
