The ceremony brought together villagers, mosque committee members, community leaders and invited guests in a meaningful atmosphere filled with unity, cooperation and the spirit of Aidiladha.
The Premier, who is also widely known as Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, was warmly welcomed upon arrival by residents and mosque congregations who gathered early for the annual event.
During the ceremony, he performed the symbolic handover of a sacrificial cow before handing over the slaughtering knife to the appointed butcher. The Premier later witnessed the sacrificial process while joining the congregation in reciting the takbir.
The Aidiladha event continued with a gotong-royong activity involving the preparation and distribution of sacrificial meat. The Premier and invited guests also joined villagers and mosque committee members in carrying out the meat-cutting process together.
A total of 26 cows were sacrificed for the Gedong State Assembly area in conjunction with this year’s Aidiladha celebration. The sacrificial meat will be distributed to eligible recipients and families in the surrounding areas.
As part of the programme, the Premier also carried out a symbolic handover of sacrificial meat to five recipients from the Gedong constituency as a gesture of concern and appreciation towards the local community.
The lively atmosphere continued when the Premier joined residents in preparing and mixing meat soup together with villagers, reflecting the close relationship between the state leadership and the grassroots community.
The programme highlighted the importance of preserving the spirit of cooperation and togetherness, especially during major Islamic celebrations such as Aidiladha. The event also strengthened ties among residents while encouraging community participation through traditional gotong-royong activities.
Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for the Regional Development Agency, Kuching North City Hall and Islamic Affairs) Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Gedong State Assembly Member Representative Mohd Naroden Majais, Batang Sadong Member of Parliament Rodiyah Sapiee, Sarawak State Mufti Khalidi Ibrahim, Samarahan Division Resident Mohamad Irwan Bahari Bujang and Kuching Division Temenggong Temenggong Haji Chek Bujang.
