MIRI – The Miri City Council (MBM) will host the World National & World Asia Tapas Competition, Exhibition, Festival & Seminar 2026 (WATCEFS 2026).
The international event, scheduled to run from 18 to 21 June, is set to bring together chefs, competitors, and culinary professionals from 12 countries.
Organisers highlighted that the programme will not only showcase tapas competitions and exhibitions but also foster international collaboration, tourism growth, and business opportunities.
Miri, known as the Resort City and Northern Gateway to Borneo, has been chosen to host this prestigious gathering.
The city’s diverse cultural heritage and reputation for hospitality are expected to provide a fitting backdrop for the event, which aims to position Miri as a rising destination for gastronomy and tourism.
Mayor YB Adam Yii, who officiated the press conference, expressed his delight at welcoming participants and visitors.
He emphasised that the festival would serve as a platform for cultural exchange and culinary innovation, while also boosting the local economy through tourism and hospitality services.
The four-day programme will feature competitive cooking events, culinary exhibitions, and seminars led by industry experts.
These sessions are designed to encourage knowledge-sharing and professional development among chefs and food entrepreneurs.
In addition, the festival is expected to attract food enthusiasts keen to experience the creativity and diversity of international tapas cuisine. Organisers have also pointed out the wider benefits of hosting WATCEFS 2026 in Miri.
