SINGAPORE – The Mayor of Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Haji Hilmy bin Haji Othman, delivered a presentation titled Re-thinking Urban Energy Transition at the Mayors Forum during the 10th World Cities Summit, held from 14 to 16 June 2026 in Singapore.
The summit is themed Liveable and Sustainable Cities. ACT Now! Accelerate, Collaborate, Transform, was organised by the Centre of Liveable Cities Singapore (CLC) and the Urban Renewal Agency Singapore (URA).
It brought together mayors and city leaders from across the globe, providing a platform to exchange ideas, share best practices, and discuss innovative approaches to urban challenges.
Dato Haji Hilmy’s presentation focused on the importance of reimagining energy systems in cities to support sustainability and resilience.
He emphasised the need for collaborative strategies that balance economic growth with environmental responsibility, highlighting how urban energy transitions can contribute to reducing carbon footprints while improving quality of life.
The Mayors Forum addressed several key themes, including Cities for People, Resilient & Regenerative Cities, Smart Cities, Financing for Cities, and Future Cities.
These discussions underscored the shared challenges faced by urban centres worldwide, from climate change to rapid population growth, and explored solutions that can be adapted across different contexts.
Joining the DBKU delegation were Mr Rudzaimeir Malek, Deputy Director of Community Services, and Mr Mohd Hafiz Ali, Special Administrative Officer.
Their participation reflected DBKU’s commitment to learning from international experiences and applying global insights to local governance.
The World Cities Summit has become a significant annual event, fostering dialogue among city leaders and encouraging partnerships that drive sustainable urban development.
