The initiative, organised by the Miri City Council, is part of its ongoing programme to maintain roadside greenery while ensuring the safety of motorists and pedestrians.

The works involve trimming overgrown branches, removing dead or hazardous limbs, and improving the overall condition of mature amenity trees.

By addressing these issues, the Council aims to enhance visibility along the roadway and reduce potential risks posed by falling branches or obstructed views.

Officials have explained that the pruning is not only intended to safeguard road users but also to promote the long-term health of the trees.

Proper maintenance helps prevent structural weaknesses and supports the sustainable management of urban greenery.

The Council has urged motorists to exercise caution when travelling through the affected areas. Traffic control measures have been put in place to guide drivers safely past the work zones, and the public has been asked to remain patient and cooperative during the implementation period.

Tree management has become an important aspect of urban planning in Sarawak, with local authorities recognising the dual role of trees in providing environmental benefits and contributing to road safety.

Traders and businesses along Jalan Miri–Pujut have also welcomed the works, as improved visibility and safety are expected to benefit both customers and daily operations.

Urban planners have pointed out that regular pruning reduces the likelihood of accidents during storms or heavy rainfall, when weakened branches can pose hazards.
