SEMATAN – APM in Sematan responded to a public emergency on 25 June 2026 after a wasp nest was discovered near a vegetable garden.
The incident was reported to the Sematan District Operations Control Centre (PKOD), which classified the matter as an insect nest destruction case (MSS).
The complainant, who works at the garden, identified the nest on an iron pole close to the site. Concerned about the risk posed by the aggressive insects, the individual requested immediate assistance from the Civil Defence Force (APM) Sematan.
APM officers were deployed to the location and carried out the removal operation using protective equipment and established procedures.
Wasp nests in residential or agricultural areas are considered dangerous due to the insects’ defensive behaviour when disturbed.
Their stings can cause severe pain and, in some cases, allergic reactions, making professional intervention essential. Officials explained that such incidents highlight the importance of community vigilance.
Residents are advised to report insect nests promptly rather than attempting removal themselves, as improper handling can lead to serious injuries.
Emergency teams across Sarawak remain on standby to respond to similar threats, ensuring that communities remain protected.
The Sematan District Operations Control Centre continues to coordinate closely with local residents to ensure rapid response to environmental hazards.
Insect nest destruction cases are not uncommon in rural and semi-urban areas of Sarawak, where vegetation and structures provide suitable habitats for wasps and other stinging insects.
The APM Lundu-Sematan Public Relations and Documentation Unit reaffirmed their guiding principle of “Ready, Fast & With Integrity”, underlining their commitment to swift and safe interventions.
Their role extends beyond immediate operations, as they also work to raise awareness about environmental hazards and promote safe practices among residents.
For emergencies, members of the public are advised to contact the APM Lundu-Sematan Public Relations and Documentation Unit at 082711292.
The unit continues to provide support and coordination for incidents requiring urgent attention, reinforcing the importance of cooperation between citizens and local agencies in maintaining safety.
