MATU – The Civil Defence Force (APM) Matu District successfully destroyed a large wasp nest in Kampung Jemoreng on 24 June 2026, following an emergency call from a resident.
The incident was categorised as an insect nest destruction case (MSS) and required immediate intervention to ensure safety.
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received the report from the complainant, who discovered the nest under the roof of their home.
The nest was described as being the size of a deer tyre, raising concerns about the potential danger to family members and neighbours.
Upon arrival, APM officers inspected the site and prepared the necessary equipment before commencing the operation. The team used insecticide spraying, specifically Ridsect, to neutralise the colony.
The procedure was carried out carefully to minimise risks, and the situation was declared safe once the nest was fully destroyed.
Authorities explained that wasp nests located in residential areas pose significant hazards due to the insects’ defensive behaviour when disturbed.
Their stings can cause severe pain and, in some cases, allergic reactions. For this reason, residents are strongly advised not to attempt removal themselves but to contact emergency services for professional assistance.
Cases of insect nest destruction are not uncommon in Sarawak’s rural and semi-urban areas, where vegetation and structures provide suitable habitats for wasps and other stinging insects.
Emergency teams across the state remain on standby to respond to similar threats, ensuring that communities remain protected.
The APM Matu District Public Relations and Documentation Unit reaffirmed their commitment to public safety, guided by their operational principle of “Ready, Fast, With Integrity”. They emphasised that swift intervention is crucial in preventing accidents and safeguarding residents.
For emergencies, members of the public are encouraged to contact the PKOD APM Matu District at 084-832208, which operates 24 hours a day.
The unit continues to provide support and coordination for urgent cases, reinforcing the importance of cooperation between citizens and local agencies in maintaining safety.
