MATU – A python was successfully captured by the Civil Defence Force (APM) Matu District on 25 June 2026 after residents reported its presence inside a home in Kampung Sok.
The reptile, measuring approximately one metre in length, was found in the ceiling of a bathroom, causing alarm among the household.
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received the emergency call from the complainant, who discovered the snake while carrying out daily activities.
Concerned about the safety of family members, the resident immediately contacted APM Matu for assistance.
Upon arrival, APM officers inspected the location and confirmed the python’s presence. The team prepared specialised equipment before commencing the capture operation.
The reptile was safely removed without incident, and the situation was declared secure once the operation concluded.
Authorities explained that pythons are non-venomous but can pose risks if they feel threatened, particularly in confined spaces such as residential buildings.
Their presence in homes often results from nearby vegetation or food sources attracting them into human settlements.
The successful capture highlights the importance of community vigilance and the role of emergency services in managing wildlife encounters.
Residents are reminded not to attempt handling snakes themselves, as improper actions can lead to injury. Instead, contacting trained personnel ensures both public safety and humane treatment of the animal.
Wildlife sightings in Sarawak’s rural and semi-urban areas are not uncommon, with snakes occasionally entering homes in search of shelter.
Emergency teams remain prepared to respond to such cases, reflecting their commitment to safeguarding communities from potential hazards.
The APM Matu District Public Relations and Documentation Unit reaffirmed their guiding principle of “Ready, Fast, With Integrity”, emphasising their dedication to swift and effective interventions.
The captured python has been taken for further action to ensure it does not pose a continued threat to residents.
For emergencies, members of the public are encouraged to contact the PKOD APM Matu District at 084-832208, which operates 24 hours a day.
The unit continues to provide support and coordination for urgent cases, reinforcing the importance of cooperation between citizens and local agencies in maintaining safety.
