LIMBANG – The Civil Defence Force (APM) Limbang District successfully destroyed a ground hornet nest near SK Kuala Awang on 25 June 2026, following an emergency call from the public.
The incident was categorised as an insect nest destruction case (MSS) and required urgent intervention to protect residents and students in the area.
The District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received the report at 5.25 pm. Acting on the information, four members of the Charlie Squad, led by Pbt. (PA) Abdul Azim Bin Baim, alongside Kpl. (PA) Mohd Arif Bin Midun, Pbt. (PA) Mohd Aqil Bin Abdullah, and Pbt. (PA) Muhamad Farul Bin Abdul Mattalip, were dispatched using a JMC LRV logistics vehicle. The team travelled 38 kilometres and arrived at the site at 6.50 pm.
Upon inspection, the officers discovered a hornet nest the size of a football located within the fence of a residential property near the school.
Given the potential danger to students, residents, and the surrounding environment, the team acted swiftly to eliminate the nest using insecticide spraying.
The operation was carried out safely, with no injuries reported. Before leaving, the squad conducted a thorough re-inspection to ensure the area was secure. The mission concluded at 7.50 pm, and the team returned to PKOD Limbang at 8.48 pm.
Authorities stressed that the safety and well-being of communities, particularly around educational institutions, remain a top priority.
Hornet nests in populated areas pose significant risks due to the insects’ aggressive behaviour when disturbed, and their stings can cause severe pain or allergic reactions.
Residents are reminded to report insect nests immediately rather than attempting removal themselves, as improper handling can lead to serious injury. Emergency teams across Sarawak are trained and equipped to manage such hazards effectively.
