SRI AMAN – A swift response by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Sri Aman helped neutralise a potential hazard when a beehive was discovered behind a residential property late on 26 June.
The incident occurred at approximately 8.45pm after a resident, Mrs Medelina, contacted the district office to report the presence of an insect nest on a tree near her home. Concerned about the safety of her family and neighbours, she requested immediate assistance.
Within minutes of receiving the call, APM personnel were deployed to the site using the Sri Aman Multi-Purpose Machinery (JMC). Upon arrival, the team identified a beehive roughly the size of a takraw ball.
Such nests, if left unattended, can pose risks to residents due to the potential for aggressive swarms, particularly in densely populated areas.
The officers carried out the operation using controlled procedures designed to minimise danger. Employing a burning technique, the team successfully destroyed the hive without incident. No injuries were reported, and the surrounding property remained undamaged.
Officials emphasised that the intervention was part of APM’s ongoing commitment to community safety. The Sri Aman District Civil Defence Force regularly responds to calls involving wildlife and insect nests, recognising the importance of rapid action in preventing accidents.
Beehives in residential areas are considered especially hazardous, as they can trigger allergic reactions or cause panic among residents.
The operation also highlighted the importance of public vigilance. Authorities encourage residents to report unusual or potentially dangerous nests promptly, allowing trained personnel to handle the situation safely.
Insect nest removal is one of several services provided by APM, alongside disaster response, rescue operations, and community safety initiatives.
The Sri Aman team has been praised for its professionalism and efficiency in handling the case. Their ability to act quickly and effectively reflects the broader role of the Civil Defence Force in safeguarding communities across Sarawak.
Community leaders have noted that such interventions help maintain public confidence in local safety measures.
By ensuring hazards are addressed before they escalate, APM contributes to the well-being of residents and reinforces the importance of preparedness in everyday life.
The successful removal of the beehive serves as a reminder of the essential role played by emergency services in protecting neighbourhoods.
It also underscores the need for cooperation between residents and authorities in maintaining a safe living environment.
