APM Mukah Safely Captures Snake in Kitchen

MUKAH – The Civil Defence Force (APM) in Mukah successfully handled a snake-catching operation on Friday, 3 July 2026, after receiving an emergency call from the public. The incident occurred in a residential kitchen, where a one-metre-long snake was discovered.

The Mukah District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) confirmed that the call was received from a resident who spotted the reptile inside their home. APM personnel were quickly dispatched to the location to ensure the safety of the household.

Upon arrival, the team conducted a safety assessment before proceeding with the capture. Using the pincer technique, the snake was secured without incident. The operation was completed smoothly, and the situation at the site was brought under control.

Officials explained that snakes often enter homes in search of food or shelter, particularly in rural areas where wildlife habitats overlap with residential spaces.

While not all snakes are venomous, their presence can cause alarm and pose risks to residents, especially children and pets.

This latest case highlights the importance of community vigilance and the role of APM in managing wildlife encounters.

In recent weeks, similar operations have been reported across Sarawak, including the capture of a 14-foot batik python in Saratok and the destruction of insect nests in Serian and Saratok.

Each intervention demonstrates the organisation’s readiness to act swiftly in safeguarding public health and safety.

Authorities have reminded residents to avoid attempting to catch snakes themselves, as such actions can be dangerous.

Instead, the public is encouraged to contact emergency services immediately when encountering wildlife hazards.

APM Mukah continues to operate under its guiding principle of “Ready, Fast, With Integrity”, reflecting its commitment to professionalism and efficiency.

Local officials also emphasised the importance of community cooperation, urging residents to report emergencies promptly to ensure rapid intervention.

For urgent cases, members of the public in Mukah and surrounding areas can reach the Civil Defence Force at 084-872814, available 24 hours a day.

As Sarawak strengthens its emergency response framework, incidents like this highlight the unpredictable nature of wildlife encounters and the need for swift, coordinated action to protect communities.

The safe capture of the snake in Mukah serves as a reminder of the dedication of frontline personnel and the importance of preparedness in maintaining public safety.
