KAPIT – The Civil Defence Force (APM) Kapit successfully destroyed a ground hornet nest in Sungai Sut, Jalan Entaroh, on Friday, 3 July 2026, following an emergency call from the public.
The Kapit District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) confirmed that the report was received earlier in the day, prompting the Charlie Squad to be dispatched with four personnel.
Upon arrival, the team conducted monitoring and safety checks while waiting for evening hours, when conditions were safer for the operation.
The inspection revealed a ground hornet nest located in the kitchen area behind the complainant’s house. At 6.30pm, the squad proceeded with the destruction using a Ridsect spray technique. The operation was completed successfully, and the nest was eliminated without incident.
Officials reported that all equipment and logistics remained in good condition throughout the operation. The team returned safely to PKOD Kapit after completing the task.
Ground hornets are known for their aggressive behaviour when disturbed, and their stings can cause painful reactions or severe allergic responses.
Authorities emphasised that nests located near homes pose significant risks to residents, particularly children and the elderly. Prompt removal is therefore essential to prevent accidents and ensure community safety.
This latest case highlights the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with emergency services.
Residents are encouraged to report hazardous situations such as insect nests, wildlife encounters, or other environmental dangers that may threaten safety.
APM continues to remind the public that its teams are prepared to respond to a wide range of emergencies, from medical cases to environmental hazards.
The Civil Defence Force operates under the principle of “Ready, Fast, With Integrity”, reflecting its commitment to professionalism and efficiency.
District-level squads such as Charlie play a crucial role in ensuring rapid intervention, particularly in rural communities where immediate access to specialised services may be limited.
Local authorities have reiterated that emergency services are available around the clock. For urgent cases, residents in Kapit and surrounding areas can contact the Civil Defence Force at 999 or the Kapit APM PKOD hotline at 084-796330.
As Sarawak strengthens its emergency response framework, incidents like this demonstrate the value of preparedness and the dedication of frontline personnel.
The destruction of the hornet nest in Sungai Sut serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of environmental hazards and the importance of swift, coordinated action to protect communities.
