TG. MANIS – The Civil Defence Force (APM) in Tanjung Manis successfully captured a buffalo ribbon snake measuring approximately two metres in length at SK Tanjung Manis on Thursday morning, 3 July 2026.
The Tanjung Manis District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) confirmed that the emergency call was received at 7.37am from a member of the public who spotted the reptile within the school compound.
Concerned for the safety of students and staff, APM personnel were immediately dispatched to the location.
Four members of the team carried out a search before locating the snake. Using a combination of snaring and pinching techniques, the responders secured the reptile safely.
The operation was completed without incident, and the snake was later relocated to a safe area away from the school.
Officials explained that buffalo ribbon snakes, while not considered highly venomous, can still pose risks if encountered unexpectedly.
Their presence in populated areas often causes alarm, particularly in schools and residential neighbourhoods.
Authorities stressed that residents should avoid attempting to capture snakes themselves, as improper handling can lead to accidents.
This latest case highlights the importance of community vigilance and the role of APM in managing wildlife encounters across Sarawak.
In recent weeks, similar operations have been reported in Mukah and Saratok, where snakes were found in residential yards and kitchens.
Each intervention demonstrates the organisation’s readiness to act swiftly in safeguarding public health and safety.
APM continues to operate under its guiding principle of “Ready, Fast, With Integrity”, reflecting its commitment to professionalism and efficiency.
District-level squads such as those in Tanjung Manis play a crucial role in ensuring rapid intervention, particularly in rural communities where wildlife encounters are more frequent.
