MIRI – The Sarawak Education Director, Mr Omar bin Haji Mahli, conducted a working visit to SK South Miri to assess the facilities and learning spaces available for students with special needs.
The visit, held at 12.30 pm, aimed to provide a clearer understanding of the requirements necessary to strengthen inclusive education in the school.
The initiative reflects the state’s commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of background or ability, has access to quality education.
Mr Omar emphasised that the provision of conducive and comfortable learning environments is essential in supporting students with special needs and enabling them to thrive academically and socially.
During the visit, he met with educators at SK South Miri and expressed appreciation for their dedication in prioritising both educational excellence and student welfare.
He acknowledged the teachers’ efforts in creating a supportive environment and highlighted the importance of continuous collaboration between educators and the Sarawak State Education Department.
Mr Omar noted that strengthening special education facilities aligns with the Malaysian Education Plan (RPM) 2026–2035, which places emphasis on inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all.
He stressed that schools must be empowered to serve as safe, learning-friendly institutions that cater to the diverse needs of students, including those with special requirements.
The visit also underscored the principle of “Educational Access for All”, which remains central to the Sarawak State Education Department’s mission.
This principle is being realised through infrastructure development, inclusive learning environments, and ongoing support for educators.
By enhancing facilities and resources, the department aims to ensure that students with special needs are not left behind in the pursuit of educational progress.
The working visit to SK South Miri reflects a broader strategy to strengthen special education across Sarawak.
It highlights the importance of early intervention, appropriate infrastructure, and continuous teacher support in building an inclusive education system.
With the state’s commitment to inclusivity, the visit serves as a reminder that education is not only about academic achievement but also about fostering equality, dignity, and opportunity for every student.
