SRI AMAN – The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department successfully handled an operation to remove an insect nest at Rumah Burung, Jalan Sembauh, on Wednesday evening, 8 July 2026.
The incident was reported at 8.30 pm by local resident En. Alvin Fan, who contacted the department directly. The location was approximately nine kilometres from the nearest fire station.
Commander of Operations PBK II (TBK I) Elijah Tiyit led the response team, which comprised one unit of EMRS BMY 4446 with a crew strength of three personnel. No senior officers or other agencies were present at the site.
Upon arrival, the team confirmed the presence of a suspected insect nest beneath the roof of the birdhouse. The operation was carried out with full protective equipment.
A skylift, rented by the complainant, was used to access the nest. Firefighters employed a Baygon insect spraying unit to eliminate the infestation.
The operation was completed without complications, and no further hazards were identified. Once the nest was destroyed, the team reported the area safe and returned to the station.
Officials noted that no additional agencies were required during the intervention, and no operational problems were encountered.
The swift response highlighted the department’s efficiency in dealing with public safety concerns, even in non-fire emergencies.
The Fire and Rescue Department continues to emphasise its role in safeguarding communities, not only through fire prevention and rescue operations but also by addressing environmental hazards such as insect infestations.
These actions reflect the department’s commitment to maintaining safety standards and responding promptly to community needs.
