The operation, which took place between 10.00 am and 1.30 pm, was led by members of the Narcotic Criminal Investigation Division in collaboration with the Bau District Police Headquarters (BPJKKD).

Officers first detained a 44-year-old man at the Bau Market area. A search revealed a transparent plastic packet containing crystalline substances suspected to be syabu. The suspect was taken into custody under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Following this, police conducted further inspections in the Singai Bau area, where four additional men aged between 21 and 32 were arrested.

Urine tests carried out on all five suspects returned positive results for drug use. These individuals were subsequently detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Bau District Police Chief, Pisupt Mohd Haide bin A. Rahman, confirmed the arrests in a press release, stressing that the Royal Malaysian Police will continue to take firm action against drug-related offences.

He urged members of the public to assist by providing information on drug activities through official hotlines.

Reports can be made to the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) at 012-208 7222 or the Sarawak IPK JSJN hotline at 017-592 9211.

Authorities highlighted that the operation reflects ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse in the district, particularly in public areas such as markets and residential zones.

Police reiterated that community cooperation is vital in tackling narcotics and encouraged residents to remain vigilant and proactive in reporting suspicious activities.

The arrests underscore the department’s commitment to safeguarding Bau from the dangers of drug abuse, with enforcement operations expected to continue across the district.
