Sibu Police Seize Drugs Worth RM18,000 in Two Raids

SIBU – Police in Sibu arrested a 22-year-old man and seized drugs valued at more than RM18,000 during two separate raids on Tuesday, 7 July 2026.

The first operation was carried out at around 3.00 pm along Jalan Pahlawan. Officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Sibu District Police Headquarters detained the suspect and confiscated several substances.

Among the items seized were 11 grams of crystal lumps suspected to be ketamine, 190.15 grams of powdered substances believed to be ecstasy, and 500 ml of liquid suspected to contain ecstasy.

The estimated value of the seizure was RM2,912. A second raid followed at 3.45 pm at a residence on Jalan Belatok.

Police recovered 514.6 grams of powdered substances suspected to be ecstasy, 191 grams of ketamine, and 1,000 ml of liquid believed to contain ecstasy. The total value of the second seizure was RM15,536.25.

Initial screening tests revealed that the suspect tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, and benzodiazepine-type drugs. The individual has been remanded for seven days to assist with further investigations.

Sibu District Police Chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin bin Abang Ahmad confirmed the arrest and highlighted the seriousness of the charges.

Offences under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carry mandatory capital punishment or life imprisonment upon conviction.

Meanwhile, offences under Section 15(1)(a) of the Act may result in fines of up to RM5,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both, along with a two-year supervision order under Section 38B.

Authorities stressed that the Royal Malaysian Police, particularly the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, will continue to intensify efforts against drug trafficking and abuse.

The police reiterated that community cooperation is vital in combating narcotics and urged residents to remain vigilant and proactive in reporting suspicious activities.
