SEMATAN – Emergency responders were called to the scene of a road accident involving two motorcycles at the Kampung Temaga Melayu junction in Sematan on Tuesday, 7 July 2026.
The incident, which occurred in the afternoon, prompted swift action from the Sematan District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) and the Civil Defence Force (APM) Lundu Sematan.
According to reports, the accident involved an adult female rider and an elderly male motorcyclist. Both sustained injuries in the collision.
APM officers provided immediate first aid at the scene before transferring the victims to Lundu Hospital for further medical treatment.
The PKOD confirmed that the emergency call was received from members of the public, who alerted authorities to the crash.
Responders arrived promptly, ensuring that the victims received stabilising care before being transported. The Civil Defence Force highlighted its commitment to rapid response, noting its guiding principle of “Ready, Fast & Integrity”.
Local residents expressed concern about the safety of the junction, which has seen frequent traffic movement due to its location near residential areas.
Community members have urged for improved road safety measures, including clearer signage and stricter enforcement of speed limits, to reduce the risk of similar accidents.
Road accidents involving motorcycles remain a pressing issue in Sarawak. Data from the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) shows that motorcyclists account for a significant proportion of road fatalities nationwide.
In rural districts such as Sematan, narrow roads and limited visibility at intersections often contribute to collisions.
Authorities continue to remind road users to exercise caution, particularly at busy junctions. Motorcyclists are advised to wear helmets at all times, maintain safe speeds, and remain vigilant of other vehicles.
Public awareness campaigns have also been launched across Sarawak to encourage defensive driving and highlight the importance of road courtesy.
The Civil Defence Force in Lundu Sematan has reiterated its readiness to respond to emergencies across the district.
Residents are encouraged to contact the emergency hotline at 082711292 for immediate assistance in the event of accidents or other urgent situations.
This latest incident underscores the importance of community vigilance and the role of emergency services in safeguarding public safety.
While both victims are receiving treatment, the accident serves as a reminder of the risks faced by motorcyclists and the need for continued efforts to improve road safety infrastructure in Sarawak.
