MUKAH – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Mukah District successfully destroyed a wasp nest on a tree branch following an emergency call from the public on Wednesday, 8 July 2026.
The incident was reported to the District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) after residents noticed the nest, which was about the size of a takraw ball, posing a potential risk near their home. Concerned for safety, they immediately contacted APM Mukah for assistance.
APM personnel were dispatched to the site equipped with insect control tools and protective gear. The team used ridsect spray followed by controlled fire techniques to eliminate the nest. The operation was carried out carefully to ensure safety for both residents and property.
The task was completed without incident, and the area was declared safe shortly after. APM Mukah expressed appreciation to the public for their vigilance and quick reporting, stressing that community cooperation is essential in enabling rapid intervention during emergencies.
Wasp nests are a recurring issue in Sarawak, particularly during warmer months when insect activity increases. Experts caution that wasps can become aggressive if disturbed, posing risks of painful stings and allergic reactions. In rural districts such as Mukah, where homes are often surrounded by vegetation, encounters with insect nests are more frequent.
Authorities continue to advise residents not to attempt removing nests themselves, as improper handling can provoke the insects and lead to injury. Instead, the public is encouraged to contact emergency services such as APM Mukah, which remains on standby to respond to insect-related hazards.
The Civil Defence Force reiterated its guiding motto, “Nang Steady,” and reminded residents that in the event of emergencies, they can reach APM Mukah at 084-872814, which operates 24 hours a day.
This latest case highlights the importance of vigilance and the effectiveness of coordinated emergency response. By working together, both the public and APM Mukah ensure that threats to safety are addressed quickly and efficiently.
